How to Make Manga With AI

Step-by-step guide to creating manga using AI: from story idea to finished panels. No art degree or huge budget required.

Start with your story

Every great manga begins with a story—and yours is no exception. In MangaOra, you can write or paste your story in the Stories section, break it into chapters, and use the AI Story Breakdown (Plan my manga) to get a page-by-page and panel-by-panel plan. The AI suggests character designs, visual continuity, and shot types so you have a clear blueprint before you generate any art. It's like having a storyboard artist and script editor in one.

Define your characters

Characters are the soul of your manga, and consistency keeps readers hooked. Create characters in the Characters section with names, descriptions, and optional reference images. When you generate panels, assign characters to each panel so the AI keeps their look and style consistent across pages—no more accidental haircut changes or outfit swaps from one scene to the next.

Generate panels one at a time

In the project editor, the Create panels tab is where the magic happens. Describe what you want (e.g. "Wide shot of the dojo at dawn, sensei in the doorway") or use the optional fields—location, narration, character speech—and let the AI suggest a description. Hit Generate to create the image. You stay in control: edit prompts, add references, or use the transform-a-drawing flow to turn your own sketches into full manga style.

Use references and Liora

Upload a style reference so every panel matches the look you want. Use character and scene references for rock-solid consistency. If you're on Pro or Studio, Liora (MangaOra's in-editor assistant) is like a creative partner: she offers advice on story structure, panel choices, and workflow right inside the editor, so you can focus on the story while the tools handle the heavy lifting.

Export for web or print

When your pages are ready, export as images or PDF. You can publish online, share with readers, or prepare for print—all without switching to a separate design tool. Your manga is built and exported in one place.
